The Musty Smell Problem

As you've probably found out, musty smells can be very tricky. There are few issues at hand when you are dealing with odors that emanate in and around your house and each must be addressed to totally remedy the problem. Essentially, you're dealing with a moisture problem and the situation needs a thorough analysis about how to stage an attack. The musty odors that are affecting your air quality might not be relegated to one surface area - the smell has most likely permeated other soft surfaces around the area so you need to have a plan of action for those as well. These soft surfaces, i.e., upholstery, rugs, curtains, wallpaper, etc., are surfaces that will hold the odor and will affect your results so treatment of these surfaces is imperative if the smell is to be eradicated.

In most instances, it is recommended that a misting fogger be used to help disperse the Odor Eliminator throughout the area. The use of a fogger reduces labor and will give you a more effective, efficient and economical application of the formula. The procedure is most effective when sprayed high towards the ceiling and towards the walls. This method allows the product to naturally fall to the floor, thereby coming into contact with all of the surrounding surfaces. Just wipe down the surfaces and let air dry. Musty Odors Not Associated With Mold And Mildew

Hard Surface Treatment:

If you are encountering foundation (block) sweating or damp concrete floors, simply spray or mop ForceOut onto the affected areas and the odor will disappear on contact. It's important to note, that in most cases, odor-causing mold and mildew will not be present on these cold surfaces because they usually aren't condusive to their growth. But since nothing can stop the concrete from sweating, you'll have to treat these surfaces regularly to control the odor.

Note: a dehumidifier will also help to alleviate the problem.

Soft Surface Treatment:

Make sure to treat all soft surfaces in the general vicinity because they will also be harboring musty odors. Simply spray the soft surfaces with ForceOut and rub in with your fingertips or use a soft brush to make contact with the odor molecules. If the musty smell is deep-set in cushions, you'll have to saturate the padding and thoroughly air dry before using. Furthermore, after treating these surfaces, it's always a good idea to treat the air in the room by spraying ForceOut overhead to eliminate any lingering odors.

In many cases, the musty smells around a home are caused by mold and mildew that thrive in a moisture-filled environment. In a nutshell, the mold and /or mildew has found a great environment to reproduce and flourish.
